Research
In the Nanophotonics group at Research Center COM (www.com.dtu.dk) we are looking for two experimental PhD students to work on quantum optics in solid-state cavities. We will fabricate nano-sized cavities in photonic crystal structures and utilize them for controlling spontaneous emission of light from quantum dots embedded in the structures. The aim is to reach the regime where cavity and quantum dot become quantum mechanically entangled. Quantum dots integrated in nano-cavities are promising for low-threshold lasers, and for single-photon and entanglement generation for solid-state quantum information purposes.
For more information, see P. Lodahl et al., Nature 430, 654 (2004).
Job description
The successful candidate will work as part of a research team devoted to quantum optics and spectroscopy on solid-state materials. Both fabrication and optical characterization of samples will be integrated parts of the project, where the exact balance depends on the preferences and qualifications of the candidate.
Facilities
COM has access to modern clean room facilities (Danchip) where growth and processing of optical samples will be carried out. We have state-of-the-art optical laboratories allowing single-photon spectroscopy on single quantum dots at cryogenic conditions, as well as advanced ultra-fast and nonlinear optical spectroscopy.
Terms of employment
Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the successful candidates will be enrolled as PhD students at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The salary and further terms of employment (3 years) are consistent with the general terms for PhD. students at DTU.
Information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies is included in the general rules of DTU, which may be obtained by application to the PhD programme office at tel: +45 4525 1176 or +45 4525 1177.
