This is a two-year term position from the date of reporting. The mission of NRC-IMS is to provide leadership, in collaboration with Canadian industry and universities, in the development of the strategic base for information technology; that is, in the development of enabling technologies related to future hardware requirements for information processing, transmission acquisition and display. For more information on NRC-IMS please visit: http://ims-ism.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/main_e.html
The Optics Group of the NRC Institute for Microstructural Sciences performs research and development work in focused areas of optical technologies and provides services in fabrication of precision optical components and optical thin films, calibration of aerial survey cameras and sensitometers and scientific glassblowing.
The Institute is seeking a researcher with proven skills to perform experimental research in the area of optical coherence tomography and low coherence interferometry. The candidate is expected to design, develop and evaluate different low-coherence interferometric topologies with a focus on optical coherence tomography (OCT), and to investigate new applications of OCT in bio-optics and medical optics. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute primarily to this project. Through dissemination of research results and other outreach activities, he/she will ensure that the Institute achievements are well known.
Design of novel interferometer topologies and performance of low-coherence interferometric measurements.Improvement of the detection system used for OCT measurements by increasing the signal to noise ratio.Development of novel fast optical delay line to be used in the reference arm of an OCT system.Dissemination of results through publication.Participation in project planning.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates.
Ph. D. in the physical sciences or equivalent engineering disciplines. To be eligible for admission to the Research Associate (RA) program, an applicant must as a minimum, have acquired his doctorate degree in Physical Sciences or equivalent engineering disciplines within the last five (5) years or be in a program leading to the acquisition of a degree; and have a demonstrated ability to perform original research of a high quality in the chosen field.
To be considered for this position the applicant must register on-line to the RA program (see below) and also apply to this position.
